it seems that to be 'realistic' about 'practical/pragmatic' politics is to accept and embrace the concept that the best that can possibly be achieved is a temporary advantage for your own interests or your own group's interests, whilst causing your diametric opposition to suffer proportionally. and to hell with the idea that there is some possible balance/compromise attainable that is of benefit to all."
